This has some nice recipes, some great salads and vegetable dishes。 I didn't realise this has meat recipes, but there is a section on meat based meals。 Although there were some nice vegetable based dishes, I wouldn't buy a book with a meat section。 It's good that a meat based cookery book shows some vegetable options but not one I'd want to keep。 This has some nice recipes, some great salads and vegetable dishes。 I didn't realise this has meat recipes, but there is a section on meat based meals。 Although there were some nice vegetable based dishes, I wouldn't buy a book with a meat section。 It's good that a meat based cookery book shows some vegetable options but not one I'd want to keep。 。。。more

Whether you are new to Middle Eastern cooking or a seasoned pro, there's something in this book for you。 I became entranced with Ottolenghi's cooking after participating in his Master Class, though my intrigue had started years earlier as we processed his cookbooks for the library。 The covers! Superb, out of this world。 and I not even cooked much from it yet。 I am reviewing because well, this one deserves, the presented content format, the pictures, the colours, and everything on this book sums up to add on taste and enjoyment。 The recipes are fabulous, the enjoyment of preparing them and learning from it is priceless。 Great work has to be praised and this is one of them !

Simple is a great start into Ottolenghi's repertoire; after reading his works: Jerusalem, Plenty, 。。。 I see no need anymore to keep it on my kitchen counter 😊 Simple is a great start into Ottolenghi's repertoire; after reading his works: Jerusalem, Plenty, 。。。 I see no need anymore to keep it on my kitchen counter 😊 。。。more

Yotam Ottolenghi strikes again in this cookbook。 All of his big flavor and interesting ingredients, but with simplicity, minimalism, and practicality in mind。

I vividly remember when I first stumbled into an Ottolenghi deli 9 years ago in Notting Hill。 It was a treat for the senses。 Parisian style displays except the jewelled delights on offer were enticing salads, sides, vegetables。。。not patisserie。 I inevitably started popping in weekly, sometimes more if I could afford it (I wish I had this book then)。 This book like all others does not disappoint。 No it is not ‘simple’, yet if you’re a true fan of his style of cuisine then you probably already own I vividly remember when I first stumbled into an Ottolenghi deli 9 years ago in Notting Hill。 It was a treat for the senses。 Parisian style displays except the jewelled delights on offer were enticing salads, sides, vegetables。。。not patisserie。 I inevitably started popping in weekly, sometimes more if I could afford it (I wish I had this book then)。 This book like all others does not disappoint。 No it is not ‘simple’, yet if you’re a true fan of his style of cuisine then you probably already own Belazu’s Rose harissa and Black Garlic shouldn’t really faze you。 If it does then this probably isn’t one for you。 It is however simpler than some of his other books such as Flavour。 Ignore the haters。 Buy it。 Love it。 Use it。 。。。more

I did it, I read a coffee table book cover to cover! So I came up with a challenge last year to myself that I needed to actually read all the coffee table and cook books lying around my house that in reality are nothing more than adult picture books to flip through lackadaisically。 I honestly thought it wouldn't be that hard but choosing a cook book as my first attempt was a stupid idea because they are slow and to keep myself from skimming recipes as I normally do, I often made myself read them I did it, I read a coffee table book cover to cover! I’m an Ottolengi fan and not disappointed by SIMPLE at all。 Its the first book I go to for inspiration and meal ideas。 Next is Jerusalem which I initially got because I wanted to touch my family heritage and I found a book of fabulous recipes。 So I had to get SIMPLE and it’s even better。 I have cooked so many of the recipes。 I have to adjust his recipes because I’m diabetic so carbs and sugar are out but it’s not hard。 The oven baked one tray friand is a family favourite and to die for。

Just like the name; authentic, simple dishes。 I really like his style。 I have tried the many of the recipes。 Must have cookbook。。。

Simple isn't quite "simple" but it definitely is straightforward, big on the yum factor, and do-able even for cooks with little experience。 As long as you follow along with Ottolenghi's instructions, don't play with the measurements or anything (unless you're a seasoned cook), these recipes will absolutely wow you and those you cook for。 Ottolenghi is a legend and all of his books have unique recipes which are complex on the flavor profile but not difficult to execute。 You will learn from this b Simple isn't quite "simple" but it definitely is straightforward, big on the yum factor, and do-able even for cooks with little experience。 As long as you follow along with Ottolenghi's instructions, don't play with the measurements or anything (unless you're a seasoned cook), these recipes will absolutely wow you and those you cook for。 Ottolenghi is a legend and all of his books have unique recipes which are complex on the flavor profile but not difficult to execute。 You will learn from this book, too。 You will grow your palette and make yourself a better cook! 。。。more

Every recipe I have cooked from here has been a home run, and many I have integrated into my weekly/monthly cooking schedules。 The food is delicious, open to modification, the photographs are beautiful, and it is all achievable for the home cook。 It's a well-loved addition to our cookbook shelf。 Every recipe I have cooked from here has been a home run, and many I have integrated into my weekly/monthly cooking schedules。 The food is delicious, open to modification, the photographs are beautiful, and it is all achievable for the home cook。 It's a well-loved addition to our cookbook shelf。 。。。more

Love his recipes and have four of his cookbooks。 His ingredients are different and make for interesting and varied meals。 This cookbook in particular is geared to more simplified recipes compared to his other ones。 Everything I have ever made is delicious。

Nasia Tsimpoura

I found his books Ottolenghi and Jerusalem interesting and full of creative recipes。 I truly use all his books and I love his cooking style, but this one is just not as SIMPLE as expected。 Sure, the recipes require less than 10 ingredients but they are far from easy to find。

Laura

Outstanding cookbook - every recipe delivers in unexpected ways。 A must-have if you are serious about developing your understanding of flavours。

OMG I love this book!

Like the name suggests, most recipes are quite simple to work with。 The recipes in here, I found them easy to work Indian-ise than most western recipes。Buzzing with ideas to try in my head :)

I've made a ton of these recipes now - enough to warrant a conclusion I think - and that conclusion is that this is a great cookbook! I didn't have a 100% success on recipes, but it was probably around 90% and there are many that will be regulars in my cooking。I've known Ottolenghi for years through his work for The Guardian, but have often been living in countries (i。e。 Germany) where it was nigh on impossible to get half the ingredients, so had to make do with drooling over the pictures。Now I I've made a ton of these recipes now - enough to warrant a conclusion I think - and that conclusion is that this is a great cookbook! Away I went。 I grew up in the Middle East and so many of these dishes brought back memories - particularly anything with za'atar and sumac! Ottolenghi's version of "simple" is not that everything has three ingredients or can be made in 10 minutes, but that they fulfil some criteria of his code; the code being: short on time, 10 ingredients or less, make ahead, uses pantry ingredients, is lazy or is easier than you think。 I guess many of these are subjective, but I can vouch for the fact that they are much simpler than previous recipes I've seen of his! :)For my taste and testing:Great recipesBraised eggs with leek and za'atar: much greater than the sum of its partsRoasted whole cauliflower - sounds simple, which it is but very, very delicious。 My husband declared it the best cauliflower dish of his lifeCarrot salad with yoghurt and cinnamon - showstopping way to serve carrots。 Rich, but perfect for a dinner party。 Or any time, really。Sweet potato mash with lime salsa - absolutely delicious with the salsa and I've made it many times alreadyNew potatoes with peas and cilantro: I loved this side - my husband unfortunately turns out not to care too much for preserved lemons: booSoba noodles with lime, cardamom and avocado: I really wasn't sure about this combo, but it turned out to be one of my favourite dishes。 Great flavours and fast too。Gnocchi alla Romana - this dish looks。。。 pretty boring。 But Ottolenghi said he'd never met a child yet who didn't love it, which sounded like a challenge。 And。。。 my kid really loved it。 As did I!Vanilla Custard with roasted strawberries and rhubarb。 Amazing。 That's it really。 A perfect dessert。Good recipesAvocado butter on toast with tomato salsa: good, but not revolutionary and a little bit of a faff。 I added poached eggs, which was lovely。Curried lentil, tomato and coconut soup - delicious and warmingMustardy cauliflower cheese: deliciousChickpeas and Swiss Chard with yoghurt: Great side - I added more citrus thoughBrussels sprouts with browned butter and garlic - tasty side although not the flavor explosion I was hoping forRoasted beets with yoghurt and preserved lemon: I'm not sure the dill really stands up to the beets, but I loved the preserved lemons with it。Oven fries with oregano and feta: good, but not as lovely as the picture promised :)Sweet potato fries - I liked this treatment although the polenta/cornmeal I used was too coarse。 The seasoning is good thoughLamb meatloaf with tahini and tomatoes: this does make quite a "wet" meatloaf, but the flavor is excellent。 It lasted 2 days too。Lamb arayes with tahini and sumac - this could easily be a "great" dish, but we had issues with the cooking of it。 The meat seemed to take much longer to cook that expected and the dish was quite greasy。 I'd like to try it again though, as it's my kind of thing。Chicken Marbella: Tasty and a good make-ahead one-tray kind of dish。Fish cake tacos with mango, line and cumin yoghurt: Such a clever idea to make fishcakes and they are superb。 I love fish tacos。 The salsa and sauce was lacking a little verve though, so I suggest more citrus and chile, personally。Honey and yogurt-set cheesecake: I LOVE cheesecake and the unusual flavours actually really worked for me。 I found it just a little rich and overly dense, which is not something I say often。 Still ate it though。Didn't work for meCornbread with cheddar, feta and jalapeno: this is so up my street and it could have been GREAT easily, but was too wet, crumbly and a little weird proportionally, in terms of ingredients。 I'd like to give it another try though。Ricotta and oregano meatballs: I found the flavor bland and the meatballs disintegrated in the sauce。 Booo。 。。。more
